What are the components that made up a glucose test-strip?
The glucose meter, with the test strips, works under the mechainsm of an amperometric sensor? 2 electrodes (Pt and AgAgCl) are used.
Peel off the layers of a test strip one by one, i realise that there are 3 connecting points (whichs means there are 3 electrodes), can anyone tell me what are the 3 types of electrodes?
If possible, can anyone explain in details on how a glucose meter work?
All companies use basically the same format but each is different due to patent issues. All sensors have at least one working electrode and one counter electrode to support the reaction. Glucose reacts with the enzyme in the reagent and produces a current which is measured between the counter and working electrodes and is used to calculate the glucose level. Higher current equals higher glucose. There are many other things in the reagent for other purposes.
The third electrode that you are refering to can be used for a variety of things such as hematocrit compensation to underfill detection or aboslutely nothing at all (just a way to get around patents).
