What is my true blood pressure?

When I measure my blood pressure on a store bought monitor with an arm cuff i get like 150/103 which is terrible. I get 116/78 with a wrist monitor which is much better. The latter blood pressure would make more sense as I am only 22 with no family history of early onset blood pressure and I'm overweight not morbidly obese by any means. I have disproportionately chubby upper arms could this be why I get such high readings with the arm cuff and much lower readings with the wrist monitor? Which is my real blood pressure?

These shop bought BP things are very tricky to use and very difficult to get an accurate and reproducible measurements. The ONLY way to get an accurate reading is to go to your doctor. If he/she suspects you have high blood pressure, they should get you back to the surgery on several different dates at different times of the day to re-measure your BP in the same room by the same person. This ensures that they have accounted for diurnal variation and white coat hypertension. Therefore as you can see getting a 'true' BP reading is not quite as easy as everyone thinks. Also yes you are probably correct about the arm one struggling if you have chubby upper arms.
