Lightweight Vacuums Can Help Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain affects seven out of 10 people at some time in their lives (www.nhs.uk). The causes of back pain are many and varied but it is often a result of a strain rather than a physical accident.

One key contributor to a painful back is repetitive actions using the muscles of the lower back. Certain activities exert pressure on this area, and when done repeatedly, they can cause strains to the muscles and soft tissue located around the base of the spine. These hazardous activities include simple tasks such as loading a dishwasher, getting in and out of your car, and sweeping or vacuuming chores around the house. Unfortunately these are all tasks that need to be completed in order to maintain a normal lifestyle.

These cumbersome beasts often need wrestling with to reach difficult areas and can significantly contribute to the risk of injury.

A lightweight vacuum is much more manageable and will allow the use to push from the hips and legs without applying excessive pressure to the lower spine. The best technique is similar to a lunge often performed by athletes when warming up. When pushing the vacuum forward, step forward and lean on to your front leg. When pulling the vacuum back, lean on to your back leg and return your front leg to your normal standing position. This action can help to minimise back pain while vacuuming.

Remember: Always follow the rules of safe lifting when lifting and transporting a vacuum.

Small handheld vacuums are also good for those who suffer with back pain. These tiny vacuums are easily to use and ideal for reaching difficult areas above the ground such as fabric curtains. Some people will attempt to vacuum curtains with their upright vacuum. This places immense strain on the lower back area and is very dangerous!

Recurring back pain can seriously effect you're happiness. By choosing the correct vacuum you can maintain a normal lifestyle and reduce the risk of lower back pain.
