Does being overweight generally always equal high blood pressure?
I am about 30 pounds overweight. I purchased a high en omron BP machine and have averaged my BP ratings over 30 days at 117/78. sure it spikes up some here and there when I'm active during the day, but that is my overall 30 day average. I always thought people who werre overweight usually always had high BP?
Also, prior to this, I was checking my BP with an acient hand pump unilt made in the 80s and it kept reading my BP as about 135/95 or so. With the new ($250) unit, it has always been normal. I guess some of those older units were not accurate.
it usually does, but not always. the upper number is systolic. this measures the overall pressure from the left ventricle of the heart. the lower number is diastolic. this is the measurement of the pressure of the heart during relaxation of contraction. normal ranges vary depending on many factors. from the info you supplied i would suspect that you may be ok. just a word of warning though, it is really unwise to trust a bp monitor totally because while it is a machine, they are generally not as accurate as a manual bp reading. some pulses are so faint that the monitor can't differentiate between when to mark a pressure.
